Sarong Bataraza Palawan

Barangay Sarong lies at the southwestern part of the municipality of Bataraza.
It is bounded on the Northeast by the Barangay Igang-Igang; South by the Ursula/Birds Island; North by the Barangay Iwahig; Northwestern by the Barangay Ocayan and on the West by the Barangay Rio Tuba which is bounded by Ocayan River. It is also located in the central coastline barangay’s of Bataraza municipality.


The Barangay Sarong covers a total land area of 2,270.2714 hectares. The barangay has eleven (11) sitio’s the Sitio Camboranga, Pinonglo, Tagnonok, Magdulang, Pajo, Sudob, Barangkas, Dandolit, Sibnot, Gunob, and Bocoon.

The Barangay Sarong which is under the municipality of Bataraza, Palawan, according to the resident community, sarong means kind of trees from generally common term of tribe that found on the mount of Sarong. 

Bataraza is one of the signatories of the Treaty of Paris in 1878 who pledged loyalty and peace to Spain was Sultan Haron Narrazid of Sulu, given authority to rule over the Muslim populace in the southern portion of Palawan. The Sultan established his main seat of settlement at Bono-Bono, then a part of the municipality of Brooke’s Point.

When the Americans took over the country, the authority over the subject was fully recognized and respected by the American government, Governor Edward Miller appointed Datu Bataraza as Deputy Governor and given the Title Superior Datu of the Muslim population. The Governor set the boundary of his territory from Barangay Salogon down South.

Republic Act No. 3425, which approved on June 18, 1961, created the municipality of Bataraza. On January 1, 1964 Bataraza officially started carved, out from its mother municipality Brooke’s Point. Through a resolution that was concurred by the Provincial Board of Palawan the First elected mayor of Bataraza transferred the municipality site to Barangay Tarusan.

In 1971, a new political stalwart Mayor Hadjes P. Asgali returned the seat of the Municipal Government to Barangay Marangas, as stipulated by the law where the seat of the Municipal Government should be established.
